DE BIJENKORF NETHERLANDS - OUR HOUSE, OUR HOME

All the Our House, Our Home pieces are responses to De Bijenkorf’s architecture and the work seen at the Bauhaus exhibition during the Room on the Roof residency programme at the Amsterdam store. The spaces and objects encountered on the field trip are collaged and reimagined to create new domestic objects that celebrate these inspirations and a shared visual language with the Bauhaus.

OUR HOUSE , OUR HOME - THE HAGUE

The idea to create a series of three mobiles came initially through exploring the stained glass sections in the stairwell of the Den Haag De Bijenkorf store. Fragments, forms, and similar materials from the windows themselves were adopted and reimagined into new playful structures. The mobile forms also take inspiration from the drawings of Oskar Schlemmer and the spirit of his production, The Triadic Ballet.

OUR HOUSE , OUR HOME - ROTTERDAM

The Trappenhuis rug takes a similar relief form to Emily’s architectural wooden assemblages but further explores materiality. The piece is informed by the architectural stairwell of the Rotterdam De Bijenkorf store, designed by Marcel Breuer, and celebrates the textile work of Gunta Stölzl. The outcome is a domestic object that has exchanges with the past but is rooted in the present.
