TIDAL HEIGHTS

Living room & Snug

2026

A true collaboration from the outset. From the first visit, it was clear this project was going to be about following the owner’s lead and guiding in areas where decision fatigue had set in.

With an existing collection of wonderful vintage finds and personal collections already in place, the living room and snug project was about defining the use of spaces and celebrating the client’s established point of view - creating a calm, yet characterful backdrop that was in keeping with the existing tone set throughout the rest of the house.

Weaving midcentury with a sense of romanticism and creating a space where touches of rebellion could unfold.

Colour and material selection, Layout guidance, Joinery design & sourcing.

A neutral palette with soft pink undertones was used on walls, woodwork, and the ceiling to give the room a warmer feel throughout and to complement the Sapele wood used in the joinery. A contrasting punch of red on the snug door and door frame, with texturally rich mauve velvet curtains, provides an unconventional choice that works beautifully with the natural tones of the salvaged fireplace. This neutral, soft, and romantic palette allows for bold animal print accents, black leather, and pops of off kilter colour to bring a playful element to the overall feel.

COLOUR & MATERIAL SELECTION

LIVING ROOM

Inspired by a freestanding modernist lacquered furniture piece discovered by the owner, the joinery sits on oversized reeded feet. To keep things light in the living room alcoves, simple floating shelves sit above the cabinetry, painted to match the walls. The routed decorative edges of the cabinet tops celebrates the use of solid wood here and aged brass handles revisit the idea of mid-century with a touch of romance - something that weaves throughout the concept for the home.

BESPOKE JOINERY DESIGN

SNUG

The snug joinery had a few key functions: to conceal a partially removed chimney breast, to house the owner’s huge collection of books, and to create the perfect spot to watch films.

The softer modernist feel carries through into this space, with more masculine elements of the joinery given a lighter touch through the addition of vintage wall lights, decorative routed detail, and aged brass hardware. A concealed curtain track was installed to hide the TV when not in use, a nod to the owner’s profession and passion: cinema.
